Executive Deputy Mayor & (Spatial Planning & Environment)
Eddie Andrews, born on 18 March 1977 in Cape Town’s Mitchells Plain, is the Executive Deputy Mayor and MMC for Spatial Planning & Environment in the City of Cape Town, a role he has held since November 2021 under Mayor Geordin Hill‑Lewis. A former Springbok and Stormers prop with 23 Test caps (2004–2007), he turned to public service after retirement due to spinal stenosis, joining the DA and being elected to the City Council in 2011. As MMC, Andrews is tackling spatial inequality, driving sustainable urban development, coastal and wetland restoration, updating urban design policies, and overseeing net‑zero municipal infrastructure—all supported by significant budget allocations for dredging, green building certification, and by‑law reform to assist micro‑developers. His leadership also extends to co‑founding the Joshua Foundation for youth development, reflecting a lifelong commitment to community upliftment and equitable growth.
